STEEPS & BACKCOUNTRY BASICS AT APEX MOUNTAIN RESORT

Apex Mountain Resort is known for its dry, powder-filled days, offering ideal conditions for champagne powder skiing. With its unique northeast-facing slopes, Apex is the only resort in the Okanagan where the powder stays untouched for days. Once you’ve shredded the resort’s epic stashes, the next step is to dive into slackcountry and backcountry skiing!

Backcountry Basics Camp

With ski touring’s growing popularity, we’ve created the perfect opportunity to not only hone your off-piste skiing skills within the resort but also introduce you to the basics of backcountry skiing in a safe, judgment-free environment. Whether you’re new to ski touring or just looking to familiarize yourself with the gear and techniques, this camp will ensure you're ready to confidently head out of bounds. Learn everything from getting comfortable with your touring setup to what to pack, how to layer, and essential backcountry safety tips.

This camp is ideal for anyone looking to dip their toes into backcountry skiing without the pressure, allowing you to learn at your own pace while gaining valuable knowledge for future adventures.

YOUR CAMP INCLUDES:

• Two days of coaching with a 6:1 coach-to-skier ratio to maximize individual feedback
• Video analysis and review to track your progress and fine-tune your skills
• New techniques and skills to expand your mountain playground and tackle more challenging runs
• Free Demo Skis - based on availability and first come first serve basis

SCHEDULE

DAY 1:

• Break into groups based on skill level
• Drills on groomed terrain to refine basic techniques
• Lunch (change groups if needed)
• Off-piste practice to focus on applying skills in the wild terrain
• Après-ski with video review and feedback

DAY 2:

• Morning Q&A session with a focus on backcountry topics:
• What to pack, layering tips, beacon basics, etc.
• More drills on groomed runs and off-piste terrain
• Lunch
• Optional touring transition and small inbounds uphill ski tour
• Finish with more shredding on the mountain!
